I was going to take some better ones but I wanted to share. >_>

I have no 70cm clothing, so I stuffed him in Kieran's shirt (which actually doesn't fit too badly, considering it's for 60cm) and a pair of pants. I just haven't had the time or the energy or the anything to locate SSDF clothing. Poor Gabriel; he's totally not the ruffles-wearing type. XD

So. This is Gabriel's third and hopefully final incarnation! I got his head in August but he's been off getting faceupped. I like him a lot so far, but I always have to get used to the doll before I love it. (Like with Vincent.) He's definitely a bit different, but I think it's in a good way.

Uhhh... I can think of nothing else to say. XD; What do you guys think of him?

Wtffff PG&E??

Our power went out in the evening last Tuesday, which was normal for the first rain after five months of dryness. We lit candles and waited until it came back on at 7:30.

Today the power went out again at five pm, and now at 10:30 we're STILL in the dark. I heard the first transformer blow at five down the street, but a little while later another one blew somewhere behind us.(They make a pretty loud boom, if you've never heard it happen before.) Of course no one was available, and some poor guy that wasn't even working had to come over in his own truck to check it out. They mentioned that they'd have more info at 8:30.

We checked back (thank goodness for cell phones) and they said that we'd either have power back or they'd have more info by three in the morning. IN THE MORNING.

My mother just caught one of the workers down the street to ask for an update. He said they had an entire team out there working, but we'd be lucky if we had power by daybreak.

The worst part? We can see jackasses down the street that have electricity. Fuck you guys.

I'm bored as heck, so I guess I'm going to go take a candlelit shower and go to bed. It's a good thing I'm tired; I can't remember the last time I went to bed this early.

Thank goodness for Blackberrys as well. That's what I'm posting this on. There had better be electricity by the time I wake up... *grumbles*

Edit:
So much for the sleeping part. Seven of the biggest, strangest looking trucks I've ever seen have converged RIGHT in front of our house and are tearing up the transformer in between our house and our neighbor's. The one that didn't blow. The neighbors have an old Hispanic grandma living with them that thinks it's the second coming of Jesus or something. Poor thing.

Apparently a few blocks over a shooting just occured. WTF. I was wondering why that helicopter was circling.

Anarchy!

This was what I did yesterday morning. Worth getting up at five in the morning for? Hell yes. ;]

I shall now spam you all with tons of balloon pictures! (They're really cool balloon pictures though, I promise!)

This picture sucks because it was really dark still, but it's part of the series. X3

So does this one, but it shows the whole balloon.

First one up, and everyone helps hold it down while they adjust the burner.

Almost set.

Number two up! Once they blast the burner it takes less than ten seconds for the balloon to go from lying on the ground to totally upright. Hence the reason I didn't bother running over there.

One last blast...

Lift off! XD)

Up, up, and away!

Seems like they set up right on top of one another, but they're the experts, I suppose...

Seven balloons in a row. (I think there's an eighth on the ground in between the striped one and the second-to-last one.)

The team of the Mariposa II getting ready. Behind the basket there is a huge fan blowing air into the balloon, which is how they fill it up.

The one behind it was filling up when this one was still rolled up on the ground, but it's such a small balloon that it was ready first. It obviously rolled off the tarps and got dirty at one point. I wonder how they clean it?

Lighting the burner...

Almost up...

Once the burner is turned off the balloon looks like it exhales and becomes skinny.

I love the look of concentration on his face. You can see the fan used to fill the balloon being steadied by the lady in orange.

You can see how much larger this one is than the Mariposa. (Which was still on the ground right behind me.)

Another one takes off!

Preparing to lift off! You can see the chase vehicle for this one next to it. They had a heck of a time getting out of the area to follow the balloons, with all the people there.

Captain Easter lifting off. XD

The Mariposa II finally heading out.

Mr. Concentration takes off while the Mariposa II's chase vehicle drops the ball on the whole "chasing" thing. XD

That one way up in the top left corner would be the Mariposa. Their chase vehicle was still next to me, doing who knows what.

Drifting away.

They used to have a balloon race that drew in tons of balloons (about fifty, I was told) but most of them stopped coming when they stopped the race. I didn't count how many there were, but I think about a dozen. Living in a desert valley is really perfect for the balloons, with the air currents and lack of wind.

Sorry for the uber spam. >_> I was only going to post about a dozen, but then I realized that I had a neat chronological order thing going on and I decided to post more of an events-as-they-unfolded thing. I have some sequences that can be turned into animations (like Mr. Concentration from the moment he lights the burner to the moment the balloon gets upright) so I need to figure out how to do that.

Anyways. Hot air balloons FTW!

ETA: Kasha dives through soda boxes just like that Scottish Fold Maru on YouTube. SO awesome. XD

Apparently our jackass mail carrier decided that instead of taking my package back to the PO after attempting to deliver it like he was supposed to, he was going to leave it on the truck in the 100+ degree heat all. Day. Long. I have attempted to pick it up twice today and had them tell me that he never brought it back. This is the same asshole that deliberately ran over our trash cans because he was too lazy to back up and came all the way to the door to bitch to me when the mailbox was blocked instead of just hopping out and putting the mail in. If you can file complaints about your carriers, I will definitely be doing so with him. /fumes

I found a pretty awesome but inexpensive lens for my Nikon that seems to be ideal for taking doll pictures, so I shall be ordering that soon. Amazon sold out of it the morning after I had added it to my cart but I detest Amazon anyways, so I've been checking out other places. Adorama has it but they appear to be kinda shady, so I think I'll pass on them. I looked them up on Reseller Ratings and while they have a good rating, it seems that every time the company makes a mistake they are quick to blame the customer to the extent of lying about what happened to make themselves look good. Uh, yeah, no thanks. My last stop was B&H, which seems to be the best option. Plus, they offer UPS 2nd day air for $10, which is perfect. New lens FTW!

Yes, I am wasting time before going to the PO again, at which time they had better have my package.

Here, have some shots of Kieran looking like an insolent bastard. XD

No wonder Nick was scared of him when they first met. He looks... conniving. And I had no idea that he had so much shading to his faceup until I took these. The yellowish shading around his dark eyes makes him look conveniently undead. XD

*stabs the grain* There wasn't enough light for a 100 ISO. The new lens will fix that. >.>

Okay, back to the PO. Wish me luck. >.>

Edit: I HAVE THE HEAD! I won't be entirely sure until he's painted, but I'm pretty sure this is Gabriel. As always when I first get a head, my first reaction was "Ew!" But after sticking the wig on and having a look at him I think he's going to be perfect. <3 He'd better be, because this is his third shot and I'm sick of his bullshit. >: Why must he give me so much trouble? <strike> It's not MY fault Nick hates him. Really. It isn't.</strike>

I didn't realize I hadn't posted in two weeks. Huh. I've mostly been enjoying my break from my mother and not getting on the internet much at all. XD

Anyways, we went to San Francisco to visit my brother today. (It's a pretty short drive, actually.) And um, holy crap he totally surprised me by buying me a new Xbox to replace my 3 1/2 year old one that finally succumbed to the Red Ring of Death after tens of thousands of hours of gameplay. o_o I was NOT expecting that like, at all. I had wanted to replace it for a few months, but I've been busy shuffling the dolls around and didn't really want to toss $200 that could go into completing my plans into a 360 instead. I'm way too exhausted to set it up now, but tomorrow that is totally what I am going to be doing.

San Francisco was nice. Damen and I walked about four miles up and down the hills in the heat, and I'm about to keel over now. XD We went to Golden Gate park, which is ridiculously huge. It has several museums, a flower conservatory, an aquarium, a polo field (3x larger than a football field), an archery range, a dog training park, etc. Oh, and a paddock full of bison right in the middle. What are bison doing in San Francisco? No fucking clue. I suggested that they might be the city's official bovine. Hey, why not?

Before I forget altogether, I've wanted to post these shots of Vincent with his new eyes.

And a closeup.

I like them a lot. They're perfect. :3

That's about it. San Francisco is gorgeous, but utterly filthy. I need to bathe like, now. XD

She looks adorable, but she's a bossy little tyrant that likes to keep Nick under her thumb and calls him "Nicholas" when she's angry with him.
And meet Kieran! His interests include manipulating people, being a scholar, and keeping an eye on his fledgling, Nick. And manipulating his fledgling Nick into being a scholar. Okay not really, I just wanted to combine the three. XD

They got here at 9:50 this morning, which is the earliest I have ever gotten an EMS package. Oo They've been delivering them around 1:30-1:45, so I was still asleep. I nearly broke my leg getting to the door while Sydney went ballistic and scared the post lady. XD

I still can't believe they're here. ;__; I shall definitely be posting more pictures of Sophie tomorrow. Her posing with that new joint system is amazing. She can pull off poses that I never even imagined putting a doll in before. o__o

I've been meaning to post some pictures or something, but I just haven't had time. Things have been crazy around here lately, and I haven't even been able to keep up with commenting on my F-list. >.< (Which I apologize for.)

My mom's cat has been sick off and on for the past two weeks or so, and for some reason my mom has decided that I am her sole caregiver while she's ill. So I've been responsible for feeding her and changing her diet and stuff, which seems to have helped a bit. I think one of the main problems is the heat though; she has a TON of hair, and when she eats during the heat of the day I think it makes her sick. =/

Speaking of heat, it spiked to 112 degrees (44 C) today, which was just retarded. I stayed in the house all day and didn't feel much of it, but it was still hard to keep the interior cool. When it reaches 100 degrees before noon you know the day is going to suck. But hey, I guess that's what you get for living less than 100 miles from one of the hottest places on earth. *dies*

Despite being annoyingly busy, I found the time to see Harry Potter. I really like HBP, so I was pretty disappointed with the movie. The entire focus was on the silly little love triangle between Ron, Lavender, and Hermione, and about Harry's crush on Ginny. The main focus in the book was Dumbledore preparing Harry for what is to come in the Deathly Hallows, so I'm really not sure how it's going to mesh with the seventh installments. Not to mention the fact that the last part with the cave, the horcrux, their return, and Snape/Malfoy was completely rushed through. All of the sudden everything was over, and I was sitting there going, UM, seriously? We spent two hours with Ron snogging Lavender, Hermione moping, and Harry sighing over Ginny and then we can't even do Dumbledore's death justice? Riiiiight. The Death Eaters were also traipsing about the grounds with Bellatrix at their head, meeting no resistance whatsoever. Whereas in the book there was, you know, a battle between the teachers and the Death Eaters, since they wouldn't exactly want them running amok in the castle. (Also, I didn't know you could spell it either "amok" or "amuck." Iiiinteresting.)

I literally facepalmed in the theater when Harry was running after Snape and then he just turns around and goes, "I'M the half-blood prince!" and then runs off again. The distinct feeling that Snape is protecting Harry that you get in the book is also absent. I did, however, like the way that they showed Malfoy going into the Room of Requirement again and again to repair the vanishing cabinet, though they didn't really show that he was repairing it. It seemed more like he was just testing it or something. They left out the way that Malfoy knows about the cabinet, of course. I think they left it out of the previous movie as well, which is a shame because Montague getting stuffed in the cabinet (by Fred and George, as I recall) and then having to Apparate out and ending up stuck in a toilet weeks later is really one of the finer points of the book. XD

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Daniel Radcliffe's acting seems to have improved slightly. I don't remember the fifth movie (need to buy that and rewatch it...) but I remember that his acting in the third and forth ones was dreadful because he was old enough to try to act. Rupert Grint was the best as usual, doing a great job of portraying Ron and delivering his lines naturally in a way that the other two can't. Emma Watson was dreadful, but that wasn't surprising. She has this way of screwing up her eyebrows as she stiffly delivers her lines that makes me want to reach through the screen and push her out of the picture. >.> Also, I loved the fact that it is now painfully obvious that Radcliffe is really really short. He's only 5'6", so when he's near, say, Felton, who is 6'1", it's reaaaaaally noticible. Pfft, even Cloud Strife is 5'7". /SHOT

Tom Felton (the one that plays Malfoy) was looking waaaaaay too old to be playing a sixteen year old. He does a good job of playing an elitist little git though, and of portraying a kid that is in over his head and doesn't know what to do. Speaking of looking old, hellooooooo Alan Rickman! I hardly recognized him at first.

So, overall I'm sure people that haven't read the books will love it and crow that it is the best Potter film yet. Those who know better, however, will likely shake their heads and hope that making the seventh installment in two parts will keep them from butchering the story.

Rowling has a pretty set sequence of storytelling that happens in every novel. First the introduction, then a skeleton plot is introduced early on, then various mini adventures and revelations occur until they piece most of it together, then they have a Big Adventure (the climax) in which a major revelation occurs and clarifies everything, then they end up in the hospital wing, and finally Harry is "debriefed" by Dumbledore and learns something new about Voldemort. This happens in every one of them, so you really can't leave out the stuff along the way to the climax without fucking up the story, which is what happens in the movies. I mean, I know the movies are being made solely for profit and they don't give a damn about the story as long as it sells, but I hope someday someone will come along that wants to make the story into a series of movies and do it justice.

Has anyone else noticed that all the idiot teenagers running around pretending to be Slytherins seem to be priviledged, elitist white kids? It's beyond me why they think it's cool. I mean, Slytherins turn out to be Death Eaters, which are like some demented combination of the Ku Klux Klan and Al Qaeda. Yeah, that's just awesome. They even refer to it as "Slytherin Pride." Do they not realize how that sounds? XD

In other news, still no shipping notice from Luts. They've been whipping out orders like crazy lately, so I'm hoping that I'll have them before they go on holiday. *crosses fingers*

Edit: Ilu for proving me wrong, Luts. ;__;
I wrote this, took a shower, came back, and found a shiny new shipping notice in my inbox. 21 business days for two dolls with faceups, plus extras (I ordered on June 22). Not too bad! Now I'm going to be a wreck for several days while I wait. The good news is that if it gets on a plane today (and if customs isn't retarded), they'll probably be here Wednesday. Shipping from South Korea to California can be ridiculously fast under the right circumstances.

Since I'm editing this, does anyone know anything about metabolism? Mine went haywire about a week ago and it's driving me crazy. I literally have to eat every three or four hours to keep myself from starving, but I'm not gaining any weight. In fact, several more ribs are visible than usual. .___. Add that to all the stuff that has been going on these last two weeks... *shuffles off to eat some more*

Well, I am officially waiting for three dolls. I'm kind of surprised, actually, since I've always restrained myself to ordering one at a time. I'm on week three (business day 13) of the Luts wait already, which is hard to believe. After nearly four years of owning BJDs I guess I've perfected the "order it and forget about it" method. XD Four years in September already. Holy craaaaaaaaaaap.

Anyways, I'm not going to talk about the molds or characters that I ordered because telling people about it makes me more impatient to get them. X3 One of them is Gabriel's third attempt of course, and since it'll be the thirteenth doll that I've owned and thirteen has always been a lucky number for me, I'm hoping that this one will suit his character. I'm getting sick of trying out molds on him, so I really hope it works. >.>

To keep me busy in the meantime I've finally started another long writing project with these characters. I'd love to write about more about Nick's "current" life but I figured I had better start at the beginning. I mean, there's no point in him having an intricate history if I don't do it justice, I suppose. I'd cemented the sequence of things a while ago, so a few days ago I started the process of organizing everything. (Making a list of the key events, putting each event on an index card with a brief summary, grouping the events into chapters, writing out a summary of all chapters, then doing detailed summaries of each chapter.) I started the chapter summaries last night, which I think will be around 50 pages. I'm hoping to finish that in two weeks so I can actually start writing the darn thing. It should be in the range of 350 pages and will cover Nick's life up until he strikes out on his own, which is about a hundred years prior to his current doings in Miami. Oi vey.

Is anyone else on DeviantArt? I just joined there again a while back, and I must say it's an... interesting... place. Why are there so many teenage girls pretending that they're boys? It's like, a new trend or something. I see it all over the place, but it's totally obvious that they're not boys because a) they act really fucking girly and b) they often post pictures of themselves. Um...what? I even saw one person that had two separate accounts with one saying she was a girl and the other claiming she was a boy. Every time I see it I hear Hank Hill's voice saying, "That's just asinine." XDD

I think I've been watching too much King of the Hill lately. >.>

I mean, I pretty much imagine and write him as wearing mostly collared shirts of varying colors, so I assumed he'd be too boyish for this kind of thing.

Obviously he can rock this too. :D I got the grey one as well, but that one is for Kieran.

Anyways, I wanted to take better pictures but the temperature has shot up to 106-108 and neither me nor my camera function well in this heat. I put it off yesterday, but I don't want her to attract any fleas that may still be around from Fatty. Poor Sydney.
Sooo, a little over a week ago I was in the kitchen feeding the animals when Fatty (my mom's cat) suddenly looked up with an "OMFG" expression. Her entire body went rigid, and then she turned and flew out of the kitchen, leaving her food behind. (Which she never does. XD) I was wondering what on earth was wrong with her when the entire house began to rattle. It had an inkling of what it was, so I ran outside to see a Black Hawk helicopter swooping in a tight arc right over our neighborhood, less than a hundred feet above the roofs of the houses. It was so low I could actually see the features of the pilots through the windshield.

Ever since then, we have had a lot of military air traffic. Chinooks have been coming and going daily, alone or in pairs, and staying the recommended 500 feet up (unlike the Black Hawk). They are also deploying the jets (F15s) every day at various times of the day, which is a huge increase. Usually they only fly one day of the week (Wednesday, I believe) in order to patrol the coastline. They take off, shoot up to a high altitude, and head straight for the sea. Then they fly the entire coastline up and down before returning, where they remain until the next week. (The coastline is patrolled every day, but different bases in different cities are assigned different days, as I recall.) Anyways, you hardly notice that they're there, since they fly slowly at low altitudes to cut down the noise pollution.

Now, however, they're up at all times, every day, flying mostly over the valley. They're quite noticible, since they're flying at lower altitudes and higher speeds, as well as performing interesting maneuvers. In fact, you can hardly fail to notice them as when they fly low enough it sounds as if the sky is being torn apart.

The only reason I can imagine they are doing this is because of that ridiculous "North Korea is going to fire in the direction of Hawaii" crap. And seriously? This is a huge waste of money considering the fact that they are not a threat to California in any way. We already have a huge freaking state budget problem, and you guys are pouring money into military air training just because North Korea wants to pretend that it can play with the big kids? I don't fucking think so. North Korea's missiles are so pathetic that they can barely seem to hit Japan, let alone Hawaii or California.

You have to wonder what Japan is thinking though. "Uhhh, North Korea? Yeah, we don't know if you've heard or not, but we actually tried that whole "attack Hawaii" thing. Quite a while ago actually. And it really didn't work out that well for us. Seriously, we wouldn't recommend it."

*snickers* Anyways, I'm done with my observations. Seriously though, biggest waste of money I've seen in quite some time. .___.;

Sorry I've been so crappy about commenting lately. I've been shipping stuff I'm selling out like crazy, and I was in San Francisco over the weekend. 8D I have a ton of pictures to post too, but I'm too lazy for that at the moment.

But the reason for my post... (Yes, there's a reason. >.>)

I just found out last night (via the news) that our local SPCA is having a bit of trouble. Their facility is equipped to hold 100 cats. Right now, they have 100 incoming cats every single day. They've set up makeshift housing for an additional 400-600 cats, but only 10-12 are being adopted each day. Since they receive 700 cats every single week, they can only keep them for five days before having to euthanize them.

I knew we had an overpopulation problem with cats (since they breed like rabbits) but I had no idea how bad it had gotten. They've gotten so desperate that they actually encouraged people to have their neighbors' cats spayed/neutered if they aren't responsible enough to do it. They have a trust fund that allows them to do it for free for those who can't afford it and for very cheap if it isn't your animal. I wish people would take advantage of it. It's $30 if it doesn't belong to you, as I recall. My grandmother lives outside the city, so she catches any cat that comes onto her property and has it fixed at her expense. A lot of them are strays that then become "hers" because she feeds them, but some belong to people who either can't afford to have them fixed or are too lazy to do so.

Sooo I think I might have to head to the SPCA adoption station in the nearby shopping center to have a look. >.> I've actually been thinking that I would like to have a cat for the last month or so, though I'm not sure what brought it on. I'm more of a dog-and-horse type person. I've never owned a cat and don't know much about them, aside from living with my mom's cat. (And really, she's not so much a cat as a small, furry, and demanding Jabba the Hutt. XD)

Anyway, this seems like the perfect excuse to look into adopting a cat. I'm not really sure where to start though. Oo I know it needs to be short haired because I have allergy problems with long haired cats, but other than that I've got nothing. I've heard that males are more active and playful than females, which sounds good... Anyone have any advice?

Maybe I'll drag my mother along as well. She was quite upset when she heard about it on the news.

Well, this certainly wasn't the character I was expecting to receive yesterday. I ordered Gabriel, and Vincent showed up. XD I was planning to get him eventually, so I suppose that works out. But now... who's going to be Gabriel? >.>
I'm hoping one of the new Luts molds will work, actually. This was strike three with the Finding a Mold For Gabriel Project, and I'm getting a little tired of it. .___.

Oh well. Until we figure the Gabriel problem out, meet Vincent Amante. Just a few quick shots in the parlor; nothing special. I had a rather hectic day yesterday and only a few minutes to grab some (rather repetitive) pictures.

And one in color. XD

I was rather disconcerted to discover that after two months of anticipating Gabriel's arrival, the doll (head) that arrived was not at all suitable for Gabriel. When I realized that it suited Vincent perfectly, however, I was pretty excited. (Not to mention the fact that Nick would much rather have Vincent here.)

I think I explained why he and Nick have the same last name, right? Eh, it's not important right now anyways if I didn't. X3
Holy crap. o_o

Luts just announced their summer event, and in addition to the usual event head it seems they're releasing seven new Zuzu Delfs, two new Honey Delfs [Choco (boy) and Lolly (girl)], two new Kid Delfs [Lime (boy), and Lemon (girl)], a new line of Junior Delfs with two boys (Rigel and Lepus), a new Delf boy (Edgar), two new Senior Delf boys (Jude and Karis), two new Senior Delf girls (Grace and Harmony), and two new Super Senior Delf boys (Landy and Cirrus).

They weren't kidding when they said they were busy preparing for their summer event! That is a ton of releases. Oo I'm kinda eager to see the new Senior Delfs, and the new Delf boy since there hasn't been one in ages. I also like the event head, and you only have to purchase $250 worth of stuff to get it. Plus there are apparently four different makeup options. Hmmm... I might have to get me one of those. >.>

Not that I have any idea what I'd do with it...
